The best cat food for cats
Today, there are hundreds of brands of cat food
products on the market, which can make providing the best nutrition
for your cat a little confusing. The different types of cat food
are endless, with variations in texture, nutritional value, flavor,
and dietary needs. Choosing the right cat food
for your cat depends mostly on its age, health and personal preferences. |
The Different Types of Cat Food
Cat food comes in a variety of different flavors.
Dry, wet and moist cat foods are all available in seafood, lamb,
beef and poultry flavors. There are also combinations, such as chicken
and lamb or lamb and beef. Some cats are really picky about the
flavors of their food, so don't be surprised if a certain flavor
is snubbed. There are many brands of cat food that cater to the special
dietary needs of cats. The following is a description of the three
types of cat food available in the marketplace: |

Best dry cat food
Best dry feline
food.cat food was formulated to replicate a raw food diet, with
no by-products, no artificial preservatives and a high percentage
(50 percent) of protein. The high protein level is beneficial, though
some cats with kidney problems or other protein intolerances may
need a lower percentage. Although a few experts say that dry cat
food should be avoided, many others say it is a good supplement
to canned food, and it is less expensive. |
Canned cat Food
Because of being palatable, canned food seems to satisfy most finicky
eaters. It has high moisture content of 75%; therefore it meets
the need for water in your cat’s diet. It is the most digestible
of the three food types. Canned food can be pricey but the wide
range in prices is usually in accordance with the quality of the
meat. Food containing a higher proportion of organ meat usually
costs more. The shelf life of canned cat
food is long but once it’s opened, it becomes very
short. It is best to only feed your cat a portion that he/she will
eat in one session. |
|
Semi Moist Food
Positioned In between the spectrum of canned and dry food, the semi
moist food has a moisture content of approximately 35%. Additional
water will need to be supplied to your cat. It is sold in sealed packages
and resembles dry food pellets. It is not as widely available as dry
or canned food. Once opened, it can remain in your cat’s dish for
free-choice feeding but over time, it will dehydrate. Once the food
is dried out, nutritional value is lost and cats usually won’t eat
it because the appealing aroma is gone. Price-wise, it falls in between
canned and dry food.

Choosing the Right Cat Food
Many cat owners buy cheap cat food in order to save on food expenses.
However, you may not actually be getting your money’s worth as some
cheap cat food do not give the right amount of nutrients that your
cat needs. As a result, your cat may consume twice as much than they
would when consuming a normal serving of premium cat food. Also, continued
feeding of cheap, substandard food over time may lead to malnourishment
and even health complications. |
